• Resist the urge to over prune. Heavy pruning can shock a tree and force vigorous shoot growth. A little pruning done over several years is the best option.

• Is your tree planted too deeply? The root flare should be visible at the surface like most trees you see growing in a forest. Pull the mulch and dirt away until you hit large roots, that should be level with the surface.
